Event focuses on victims and survivors of violent crimes
WHAT: | In 2018, the OPSO Crime Victims Assistance Program handled about 1,000 cases and awarded more than $750,000 to victims and survivors of crimes in Orleans Parish. The Sheriff's Office intends to honor some of those victims and survivors at a "What About the Victims Luncheon." The luncheon is a way for victims and survivors to connect and to support each other after the loss of a loved one to crimes of violence. Attendees will also include crime victim advocates, motivational speakers and religious leaders Capt. Stephanie Minto, OPSO claims investigator and leader of the Crime Victims Assistance Program, is a speaker at the luncheon, along with Kenisha Martin, founder of the What About the Victims Facebook group. The luncheon, which is co-sponsored by OPSO's Crime Victims Assistance Program and A&N Studios, is expected to become an annual event. |
