OJC INMATES CAST BALLOTS IN NOV. 13TH ELECTION

NEW ORLEANS - 11-11-2021

In keeping with his long-standing support of inmate voting, Sheriff Marlin N. Gusman today announced that 10 Orleans Justice Center inmates -- deemed to be eligible voters by the Registrar of Voters -- cast their ballots in the Nov. 13 primary election.

A total of 58 inmates requested ballots for this election. After a vetting process, the Registrar's Office determined that 11 inmates were eligible to vote. Ten of the 11 inmates cast absentee ballots. One eligible inmate was released from custody before casting a ballot.

"The Sheriff's Office has consistently encouraged eligible inmates to exercise their right to vote in every election, since I became Sheriff in 2004," Sheriff Gusman said. "It's important to preserve access to the ballot for all eligible voters."
